Protocol

Addressing the audience at the beginning of a speech:

First, address the person who introduced you, for instance:

    Mr./Madam President
    Mr./Madam Toastmaster of the Day, or
    Mr./Madam Head Coach

Then, follow the organizational chart using names of people in the audience:

a. District Governor (if present)
b. Division Governor (if present)
c. Area Governor (if present)
d. Madam or Mr. President
e. Distinguished Toastmaster (if present)
f. Fellow Toastmasters
g. Welcome Guests
h. Especially Toastmaster ________________ (when you are coaching)

Typical Examples of Protocol at Davie Toastmasters:

For Prepared Speeches:

Mr./Madam Toastmaster of the Day
Mr./Madam President
Distinguished Toastmaster Joan Lewis (if present)
Fellow Toastmasters
Honored Guests (or Welcome Guests)

For Coaching:
(known in other clubs as Evaluating)

Mr./Madam Head Coach
Mr./Madam President
Distinguished Toastmaster Joan Lewis
Fellow Toastmasters
Welcome Guests (if present)
And especially Toastmaster (name of speaker)
